Also known as a Part J report, a section J report highlights the energy efficiency requirements for a Class 3, 5, 7, 8 and 9 building (commercial), this is defined by Section J (or Part J) of Volume One of the National Construction Code (NCC).

What is method of assessment in Section J report?

There a several assessment methods depending on the size and type of building being assessed. DTS (Deems to Satisfy) is the most common and cost-effective method available.

Who requires a Report?

Any commercial building from Class 3,5,7,8 and 9 requires a section J report to determine compliance with Clause JP1 & JP3 energy efficiency provisions of the NCC Volume 1. The report is prepared before providing a construction permit.

What will comprise in Section J Report?

The section J report comprises the following:

Part J1 – Building Fabric Performance

Part J2 – External Glazing and shading

Part J3 – Building Sealing

Part J4 – Air Movement

Part J5 – Air-conditioning and Ventilation Systems

Part J6 – Artificial lighting and power

Part J7 – Hot water supply

Part J8 – Access for Maintenance
